Ethical practice sits at the heart of my developing professional identity, because the decisions I make as a kindergarten teacher has immense effects and impacts on children, families and colleagues. Ethics in Action (Figure 12) is a practical guide to the ECA Code of Ethics that shows how ethical principles can be applied in the day-to-day work of early childhood professionals (Barblett et al., 2017). Through case studies, scenarios and provocations, it supports me as an emerging teacher to translate the Code into everyday decisions and actions (Barblett et al., 2017), reminding me that ethics is lived through relationships as much as procedures (Feeney et al., 2023). I chose the Ethics in Action as my resource because its dilemmas and reflective questions will support me to work through tensions with colleagues and families collaboratively, keeping children's rights and best interests at the centre of my decisions (Australian Government Department of Education, 2022).Developed in response to the sector's commitment to embedding ethics in daily practice, the guide offers an accessible way for educators at all career stages to move from understanding ethical principles to enacting them. Showing how its principles can become practical tools for reflection rather than rules on a wall.
